LUNCHEON MEETING: Since the RecCenter will not be available for a few months, we will have our next Luncheon Meeting at the VFW (located 9800 Goodluck RD, 11:30 A.M., January 13,1998. If it is agreeable, we may book it until the RecCenter is again available. They have only small table seating and would like one check per table. So make your reservations now -- Call Alberta 301-937-6104. PLS arrive on time in order to choose your table.

NOTE: Watch for details concerning a tour to Alaska in September - Look for it in our next ISSUE.

APPALACHIAN TRUCK STAFFERS: Frank Martin thanks all the crews who helped him on the three days. John Steckel, Tom Butash (Load Master), Bob Wigand, John Sullivan, Wes Bodin, Pat Cudmore & Roland VanAllen. This was the 27th year for this operation and Frank should be congratulated for his tenacity, resilience and goodwill, doing a tiring difficult job year-after-year and many other truck loads besides those at Christmas.

ADOPT-A-ROAD: We need a coordinator for the road trash pickup. Pls call or send a message for Roland VanAllen 301-577-2119 IMMEDIATELY if you wish to volunteer for this very important job. NOTE: GRAA has rec'd a letter of commendation for our past performance but if we wish to continue with this Plan, a renewal form will have to be executed by the 5th of January. It looks as though we will have to give it up unless a miracle happens and a coordinator is located immediately. This activity requires participation only four times a year. It is extremely important that citizens take an active roll in the preservation of our environment and this program is one such avenue available. SO - GIVE US A CALL -we GRAA members promise to support you. Cleanup area begins at Greenbelt Road & Goodluck Road and continues past the RecCenter for a short distance. With support really doesn't take long.

CARL BAYNE of Edgewater, MD -- Enjoys rec'g Newsltr -- since retiring works aboard various cruise ships. Highlights include the Taj Mahal, Great Barrier Reef, The Great Wall of China, North Cape, Easter Island, Pitcairn Island, Cape Horn, Arctic Circle, Monte Carlo, Pompeii, The Acropolis, St. Mark's Basilica, Ephesus, The Blue Mosque, the Syne Opera House, the Vatican/Sistine Chapel/Colosseum in Rome, the Panama Canal, the Amazon, the Pyramids, an African Safari, Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Blarney Castle, Omaha Beach -- the list could go on and on -

TONY DURHAM Appreciates efforts in preparing and mailing Newsltr -- hopes to visit sometime in `98.

BOB KEEFE Sends greetings to all -- still in the racehorse business - 7 at last count. Appreciates the good work done by GRAA.

FRED HEROLD Actively working at least 40 hrs each wk, always takes time out to enjoy the Newltr -- hopes to attend some of the lunches and renew old friendships. Still active as a pilot and hopes to be opening a flying school at the Easton Airport in the near future. If any Goddard types still have their heads "in the air" and would like to learn to fly, give him a call (Email noted in list mentioned in this Issue).

LEONARD KLEINBERG (LENNY) Wishes healthy-happy Holidays to all -- All is well with him - family healthy and happy -- fun to see grandchildren grow.

P.T. KRUMP (PETE) Although unable to get to any of the meetings, it is always interesting reading about what everyone is doing and the schedule of events in the Newsltr.

HENRY PLOTKIN Wishes to add a note of appreciation for receipt of Newsltr and copies of the Goddard News. Has remained closely allied to Goddard since retiring in 1994. Presently is on the UMBC (Univ. of MD Balt.Co.) faculty, JCET (Joint Inst. for Earth Systems Tech) where he has had a chance to teach, to collaborate with Goddard on various Commercial Tech. Transfer Programs and continues to think about the Space Program in which we were privileged to participate.

OBITS:

RALPH STROBLE passed away in Myrtle Beach, SC on September 21st. He was buried with full military honors at Arlington Natl Cemetery -- Two of his Goddard associates attended -- Chester Shaddeau and Hugh Turnbull.
