COMMENTS FROM GRAA'S PRESIDENT, DR. PIEPER: Five of GRAA's Ancient
Athletes, Tom Page,
Peter Hui, Ann and Roland Van Allen and Charlie Boyle. All are racewalk
gold medal winners. Charlie
Boyle will be the coordinator of the session. They will describe and demonstrate
their sport, take questions and
show a tragic video of the women's l2 kilometer race from the last Olympics,
held in Australia. They will
relate the history of this intensely technical sport, explain its rules
and controversial judging and describe its
benefits. For example, older runners frequently switch to racewalking because
it is very gentle on the joints.
This aspect is most impressive. The heel-strike forces are so low that
racewalking shoes have almost no
cushioning (the ideal shoe should fold like a fat wallet). Any questions
regarding this session, please call
Charlie Boyle 4l0-266-8523.
MAIL STUFFERS FOR NOVEMBER: Ewald Schmidt, Agnes R. Smith, Bob
& Mary Wilson, Bill Shields,
Frank Wrigley. Eloise Tarter, Marty Eiband, Robert Wilson, Roland VanAllen
