TREASURER'S REPORT: Donations were received from Paul Martin, Al Fleig, Charles Davis, Tony Grandi, Fred Flatow, George Kraft, John Steckel, Ed Korklin, Dick Stock, H. K. Lee, Tom Huber, and Chuck Mason. Although the membership of GRAA has been increasing, donations received during 1998 ($1965.89 as of December fifteenth) have amounted to several hundred dollars less than the average of the past three years.
APPALACHIAN TRUCK: The Holiday Season was celebrated in style (Dec. 8th & 15th) loading the Appalachian truck- Frank Martin started this enterprise over 30 years ago and not a single season has been missed. This year the loading and staffing crew assisting Frank were: Tom Butash, John Steckel, Bob Wigand, and Tom Huber. Hats off to Frank for a job well done!! Even tho Frank reduced the pickup to only two days this year, there was an outpouring of many who came with cars loaded with clothing, toys, etc. -- filling his truck with more than three loads.
LETTERS
WE GET LETTERS:
KEITH WALTERS: Rec'd a note from Keith that he and Jean (both Goddard
retirees) - presently residing in Eastern Shore, MD and enjoying receiving
the Newsletter -- appreciates all the work the volunteers do to get it
out. They have published a fourth book entitled "Angler's Workbench"
subtitled "100s of ideas & projects for the small-boat angler"
and is now being distributed to book stores. This is the fourth fishing-related
book written by the Walters' team. Even tho they feel they lose money on
each copy sold, they look upon it as a public service. If you wish to order
a personalized signed copy, send $20 for each book (Sales Tax/Shipping
Included) to Aerie House, P.O. Box 279, Bozman MD 2161-0279. (NOTE-.
See March 9th Schedule - Walters' Talk/Book Signing).
CHARLES B. DAVIS: Sends thanks for receiving the Newsletter and
the Membership Directory. The Directory makes it easier to send correspondence
to his Goddard friends. Charlie retired in 1977 - over 21 years ago.
NEWCHY MIGNONE: Presently residing in Las Vegas, NV - recently received
a copy of the Newsletter from Tom Canning, a GRAA member, (worked together
in the 60s and 70s). Was delighted to hear that Ed Rosette, his old supervisor
and a true gentleman, was faring well in Florida. Was visited recently
by Tom and Mary Canning, Bob and Aleta Johnson, Jody Fillman and husband,
Pam Starling and Malcom Stevens (presently living in the Colorado Rockies).
Las Vegas is still recuperating from the visit of these Marylanders --
"Is it possible the attraction here was the gambling and the cocktail
waitresses?"
CHRIS CHRISTENSEN: Wrote a note recently to Alberta "We continue
to enjoy receiving the Newsletter - has sold the family home in Columbia
this past summer - is now commuting from Gettysburg, PA - Sends best wishes
to all."
TONY GRANDI: Enjoys reading the GRAA monthly Newsletter - reading
about old friends and co-workers - appreciates efforts of all and sends
Christmas Greetings -

GRAA reports, the Goddard news, also the GRAA Directory. Enjoys keeping
with all the news and accomplishments of all the Goddard personnel. Wishes

and schedule of activities contained in the Newsletter.

years as an Astronomer in 1984 - half the time in the Theoretical Div.

of the moon measuring the albedoes (brightness) of lunar features and for
temporary phenomena occurring on the Moon, which she calls Lunar Transient
Phenomena (LT). Collects reports, reduces them for analyses of origins.
Has over 2000 such reports; published a catalog of them in 1978. Also gives
lectures in Arizona Engages in many activities in several organizations,

GRAA
ELECTION: According to the rules of GEWA, under which GRAA operates,
an election of officers should be held early next year. Any one wishing
to serve, should put his/her name in nomination. Those nominated will be
placed on a ballot presented at the Luncheon Meeting in February 1999.
Each person present will vote for seven (7) nominees. Once the Board is
elected, it chooses from its own membership, the President, V. President,
Secretary, and Treasurer required by GEWA. So far, all board members have
been "local", in the sense that they all live near enough to
GSFC to be pretty regular attendees at our monthly luncheons. However,
we don't think that should be a requirement to be on the Board -- so if
anybody from a distance wants to be on it please feel five to nominate
yourself. Probably the only requirement would be to be available for a
phone call or e-mail, when we are called upon to make one of our occasional
Board decisions. The current members of the Board are:
Wilma
Chigas Robert
Wigand, treasurer
Elaine
Montgomery, Secretary Robert R. Wilson
Alberta
Moran Robert
Pickard
George
Pieper, President
All nominations are welcome -submit your nominee (name, address, phone number) to Alberta Moran, FAX 301-937-5423 or phone 301- 937-7762. You may be surprised how much you can contribute to this organization -- and how much you personally can benefit- So - send in your nominations.
