COMMENTS FROM GRAA'S PRESIDENT, DR. PIEPER: Our October lunch took place just four weeks after the terrorist attacks
on the World Trade Centers in New York and on the Pentagon. Heightening of security at the Center was clearly evident, but fifty
four people, including retirees, alumni and some spouses managed to get in. We expect that procedures will be a little clearer next
month. Barney and Bea were not with us because Bea was undergoing surgery as a result of a fall. We hope they will be back
soon. Alberta arranged for an excellent Italian lunch catered by the Three Brothers Restaurant; for that and her work on the
admission problem we are all very grateful. Bob Stanley entertained us with an illustrated talk on the problems of getting a $300
million US spacecraft, TRMM (for Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission), from the US to a launch range on an island 90 miles
south of the southern end of Japan. It was quite a feat! Our reunion lunches of projects and other Center elements in the past have
been very successful, most recently OAO last spring. Ron Browning is taking the lead in planning an OGO reunion for some
time next spring. To get in touch with him to let him know of your interest call him at 30l-927-l209 or email him arkabee@home
.com. How about a GOES reunion sometime? Anybody want to step up for that? Call or email me at 4l0-956-5280 or
GFPieper@aol.com.
