LUNCHEON MEETING

The next meeting will be Tuesday, May 13th. 11:30 AM at the RECCenter. George Pieper has arranged for Dr. David Leckrone, Senior Scientist for HST to tell us about the Hubble Telescope Mission; some of the results are of interest to us lay folk as well as some of our number who worked on the project in the past few years. We are all interested in learning what to expect from the latest refurbishment last February.

Last month Dr. Ed Mercanti took us for a verbal exploration of the Bermuda Triangle factual and fanciful. It was agreed that the trip was enjoyable and well received -- Thanks Dr. Mercanti.

TREASURER'S REPORT

Donations were received from Carl GustaEson, Don Mena, John McKiernan, Jim Livesay, Bob Pickard, Sam Keller, Ilse Fuchs, Eric Metzger, Frank Liberatore and Charles Lee.

An initial version of a GRAA homepage was placed on the GEWA server in April. Our homepage is now available on the internet at the URL (uniform resource locator, i.e., internet address) "http://gewa.gsfc.nasa.gov/~graa/" [Webmaster's note: this URL has been corrected for the html version of this issue]. The December 1995 through March 1996 GRAA newsletters were successfully scanned, with color photos, into appropriate computer format (html and gif) As soon as certain security legal questions are resolved, it is hoped that issues of the newsletter may be made available as part of the GRAA netsite to those alumni who access the net.

DALE SOLLARS - (PER TELECON W/VAN ALLEN): Wished to thank the staff of NEWSLETTER. He's okay and enjoys life at the Ravine Golf Club in Middleburg, FL. He reported that a wren made a nest in his golf car -- he figures he's the only one in Florida with its own motor home! (Van Allen remembers when Dale rolled a perfect 300 while bowling for a GSFC League - Dale says however, he doesn't bowl anymore)

ROBERT (BOB) ANSTEAD - Looks forward to the Newsletters. Bob worked in Code 311 from 1966 - 1986 - left to join the Commerce Dpt. Retired end of 1994 after spending 3 of the last 4 years in Paris. Lives in Potomac, MD, working about 2/3 time for the Institute for Defense Analysis (IDA) in Alexandria, VA. Feels it's great to keep busy w/something he enjoys & still allows time for a 4-wk vacation or so every year.Your request for a "Retiree-Pass" HAS been noted.

CHARLES A. LEE - Presently residing in Chester, SC. Expressed appreciation for the NEWSLETTER -- Retired over 12 years ago & in good health.

BARNES, WILLIAM P. - Died 9/4/95. Received a note from his wife, Kathleen of Grasonville, MD.

BOYER, ROBERT W. - Died 1/31/97. He retired in 1984 after 34 years of service including the Navy Department. He worked at GSFC in code 206 with this area as a computer systems analyst. Rec'd info from dtr Diana Berkey.

Also received a note from Dom Seminara of Ft. Orange, FL., that his wife Bernice died 3/4/97.

NEWSFLASH 4/17/97

JOHN QUANN - Suffered a stroke while visiting his mother in NOW YORK was hospitalized. Had surgery to remove as Such of the blood clot as possible -in critical condition - is in Intensive Care Unit -- at the following hospital --
